Good food and better climate
Good taste begins with respect for our planet. We want to reduce our climate impact from cultivation to food waste.
We have come a long way in our sustainability work. For example, since 2012, we have reduced greenhouse gas emissions by 75% in our own factories. And in Sweden we use 100% renewable electricity and heating from renewable sources. Now we are taking the next important step towards a sustainable future and let two of our most popular products get new climate-smart packaging.
The tortilla gets lid top of paper
What does the new tortilla package mean from an environmental perspective??
- 150 tons less plastic
The new packaging has a climate-smarter top lid made from unbleached paper, which helps to reduce our use of plastic by 150 tons per year. The top of the package is made of paper and the lower part and the barrier against the bread consists of plastic.
- 35% lower CO2 impact*
his new packaging has 35% less CO2 impact compared to today's packaging. The paper counts for 25% of the total packaging.
But why don't we make the whole package in paper?!!
A change to 100% paper for this packaging requires an industrial solution that is not adapted for our production today. But while that development work is ongoing, we do not want to wait, but choose to do as much as possible as quickly as possible. And it feels better to be able to save 150 tons of plastic every year already now, than not to do anything at all.
Recycling
Cut and pull apart the top and bottom of your tortilla packet and recycle the top as paper and the base as plastic.
Coconut milk goes from canned to tetra
We have scrapped the can and instead our coconut milk gets new Tetra packaging. This means that we reduce our CO2 impact from the packaging by as much as 81 %*. In addition, we have replenished with even more coconut, which gives a fuller taste. Our coconut milk is also completely free of additives.
Recycling
You recycle the tetrapack as a paper package.
*Compared to previous packaging. Calculated by IVL Svenska Miljöinstitutet for the tortilla and Ifeu, on behalf of Tetra Pak, for the coconut milk.
